Save the Crystal

Please help us Save the Historic Crystal Theatre.

The Historic Crystal Theatre now has new owners as of May 11, 2010. The Community Improvement Association (CIA) has signed an agreement with Donnie Williamson to purchase the Crystal. Williamson has generously agreed to sell the theater for $55,000, well below the $125,000 appraisal Williamson obtained when he purchased the Crystal. The CIA has secured financing that includes an additional $15,000 to make repairs to the building in order for it to be used in the near future. The CIA is comprised by leaders from many civic groups in Okemah. Currently, the leaders from the Chamber of Commerce, Lions Club, Woody Guthrie Coalition, American Legion, History Center, City of Okemah, Okemah Schools and the Ministerial Alliance meet once a month to discuss the activities that ongoing in Okemah. The officers of the CIA are: Shari Parks, President, Roger Thompson, Vice President and Don Moore, Secretary-Treasurer. The Crystal Theatre committee is comprised by Shari Parks, Carl Alls, Ron Gott, Don Moore and Roger Thompson.
While many towns are losing their theaters, the CIA has taken the initiative to keep the Historic Crystal Theatre in good repair and to re-open it as a theater in the very near future. The Crystal also is home to many performers during the Woody Guthrie Celebration each July. The majority of the groups represented on the board of the CIA have made pledges to help with the cost of purchasing the Crystal Theatre. Also, there has been several individuals and organizations that have pledged money to SAVE THE CRYSTAL fund. The goal is to pay off the Crystal Theatre note as soon as possible then work on the improvements to provide Okemah a quality theatre.
