Dallas County Sheriff

The sheriff of Dallas county is on routine administrative leave following a shooting incident Wednesday. Sheriff Mike Rackley fired a shot at a suspect who reportedly approached him with a knife. Rackley and two deputies had gone to a home near Louisburg in northern Dallas county searching for two men. One of the subjects was among eight people inside the home. He was arrested when he tried to leave through a back entrance. The second subject flashed a knife and headed for a bedroom, where he tried to break down a door. He was critically wounded by the gunshot when he turned toward the sheriff with the knife. The incident is under investigation by the Highway Patrol.
