As you drive up and down most streets in Okemah, it is evident that many residents have worked tirelessly  in the last week, trimming trees that were damaged in the recent ice storm and cutting up the fallen limbs.  Many residents have piled the limbs out be curb.

City Manager Jerry Turner said on Monday morning, February 8, 2010, that the City of Okemah will NOT be picking up any brush.  According to Turner, the city does not have the manpower to perform the work.  Turner said: “I don’t think the City has the manpower to do curbside pick-up, please keep in mind that we still have our daily duties, such as repair water leaks, cemetery duties, trash removal, supply adequate water supply, sewer complaints, animal control and ongoing administrative, testing, police and fire protection and the list goes on and on”.

The city of Okemah has opened the Highland Cemetery site (north entrance) for brush only from the 2010 Ice Storm.  The site will be open from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. and 1:00 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Saturday.  The Highland site will remain open for brush disposal until the end of February.
