A private graveside service was held on Tuesday, March 16, 2021 at 10 a.m. at Bentonville City Cemetery in Bentonville, Ark. for Jimmie Dean (Nick) Nichols.
Jimmie, the youngest of seven children, was born to Okfuskee County Pioneers, Oscar and Zorah (Ward) Nichols on August 23, 1935 on the family farm. He attended the Banner school and graduated from Okemah High School in 1954. After graduation he enlisted in the United States Air Force and served four years. When discharged, he attended the University of Oklahoma for two years then went to work for the Air Force at Tinker Air Force Base, where he was a team member, and later Program Manager of Modification to the B-52 and KC135 Aircraft.
He married Darlene Ellexson on December 21, 1954. To this union, one child, Connie Nichols was born. During his tour, he attended electronic school in Biloxi, Miss., and served the rest of his time in the strategic air command at numerous locations.
After 32 years in the defense of our country, Jimmie divided his time between his Okemah Lake cabin and Midwest City, Okla. He never lost his attachment and love for his home town of Okemah.
He was a 33-year member of the American Legion, First Baptist Church of Okemah; Midwest City Fair Housing Board, and the Okemah Golf Club Course since it’s beginning.
Jimmie was preceded in death by his parents, Oscar and Zorah; his older brothers, Frank, Harry, Van, and Roy; and his sisters, Dorothy and Mae.
He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Darlene; daughter, Connie; granddaughter, Sarah and husband Blake; great-grandsons, Beckham and Thatcher; and great-granddaughter, Scout; all of Bentonville.
