Debra Ann Johnson was born January 27, 1955 in Spiro, OK to Willie Johnson Jr. and Helen Osborne.
Debra was a proud 1973 graduate of Spiro High School home of the Bulldogs. She was an excellent student that loved education from a very young age. She listed some of her memorable moments of high school as working on the school newspaper under Mrs. Beck. Debra also graduated from Carl Albert Junior College, where she was listed as Who’s Who, and from the University of Oklahoma with a Bachelor’s in Education.
Debra began her teaching career in Boley, OK at Boley Boy’s Home. She also taught school at Boley Public Schools and later Okemah Public Schools where she was employed until her death June 27, 2022. She had several decades of teaching students from elementary, middle, and high school. Debra also taught Adult Education classes several years.
Debra believed in family values and loved spending time with her family. She was truly each of their #1 fan and loved cheering them on in everything they did. In her spare time she enjoyed gardening and took great pride in her flowers.
Debra was a member of the Delta Sigma Theta Sorority and loved assisting with projects for the Boley Chapter.
Debra was preceded in death by her husband Lenon Stevens and father, Willie Johnson Jr.
Debra is survived by 5 children, sons; Derrick and Kai-L, daughters; Carmen, Cassandra, and Amenta.
Survivors also include her mother, Helen Osborne (Spiro, OK), sisters; Phyllis (Anthony) Parker (California), and Dorris Reed (California), brothers; Ronald (Liz) Shepard (Ft. Smith, Arkansas), Timothy Shepard (Spiro, OK) and Curtis Wayne (Renee) Johnson, Sr.(Las Vegas); by her grandchildren, D’Mon, Alicia, Zayniah and Lula Ann McCurtain, DeKnisha Willis, D’Shonda and D’Vant Hunt., and great-grandchildren; Keylan, Emmarie, and Nia McCurtain. She leaves many loving uncles, aunts, nephews, nieces, relatives and friends.
Debra’s family will greatly miss her and the love she engulfed them in over the years. May her spirit of love and laughter remain with us forever.
