April Sales Tax Disbursements Up for Okemah and Okfuskee County

Reports for sales and use tax disbursements for April 2024 were released by the Oklahoma Tax Commission recently. The disbursements reflect local tax revenue receipts from February 2024 business. Sales tax disbursements for Okemah went up by about 8.01 percent from a year ago. It went up for Okfuskee County by about .66 percent. The April use tax disbursement went down for Okemah by about 13.15 percent. It went up for Okfuskee County by about 24.27 percent.
Sales tax is charged at the point of sale. Use tax is paid by the consumer on goods purchased where a sales tax was not charged. For instance, out-of-state purchases.
Castle and Weleetka saw a decrease in sales tax disbursements for the month of April, while Okemah, Boley, Clearview, and Paden experienced an increase. Castle (-$414.77) and Weleetka (-$10,913.80). Okemah (+$9,856.79), Boley (+$3,765.37), Clearview (+341.18), and Paden (+$4,331.14). At the county level, Okfuskee County saw an increase (+$875.78).
Boley, Clearview, and Weleetka saw increases in reported April use tax disbursements. Okemah saw a decrease. Boley (+$1,233.28), Clearview (+$71.39), and Weleetka (+$3,208.91). Okemah (-$1,928.46). No figures were reported for Castle and Paden. Okfuskee County increased (+$6,519.93).

According to the Oklahoma Tax Commission website, the April 8, 2024 distribution of sales tax collections by the Oklahoma Tax Commission primarily represents local tax receipts from February business. Companies that remit more than $2,500 monthly in sales tax receipts are required to file and pay electronically. The monies they reported this period represent sales from February 16th to 29th and estimated sales from March 1st to the 15th.
The disbursement of $192,788,971 in sales tax collections returned to the cities and towns reflected an increase of $5,376,949 from the $187,412,022 distributed to them in April last year. The use tax disbursement to cities and towns was $31,935,335.
