It is with great sorrow that we announce the passing of our sister, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and friend. Kay passed peacefully at home surrounded by loved ones.
We were blessed to have her so long, Kay was born July 31, 1932 and died on March 20, 2025. Kay was married to Raymond Scritchfield July 8, 1950. Ray preceded her in death in 1975. She married Herb Rakestraw in 1979. He preceded her in death in 2023.
The union between Ray and Kay brought five loving and beautiful children.
She was preceded in death by one son Jerry, grandson Jimmy Ray, her parents Marvin and Gwen Cargile, and brother Charles Cargile, and several aunts and uncles. She is survived by four of her children Sandra Thompson (Brian), Cindy Kerns (Eric), Robert Scritchfield (Dezette) and Steve Scritchfield (Kathy), and Kay’s sister Jonnie Kennedy and her sister-in-law Bonnie Cargile. She was considered a second mom to many. She had 21 Grandchildren, 31 Great Grandchildren & 2 Great-Great Grandchildren.
She worked as a licensed practical nurse for many years and it was both a passion and a calling, rather than a job. Raymond was in the military for 25+ years, served in three wars, and they traveled a great deal.
She helped build the community in the places she lived:
Served as a Worthy Matron in the Eastern Star.
Deacon and President of the Board at the First Christian Church of Okemah.
Served on local PARB Board.
Active with community youth programs.
Even into her eighties she continued to drop everything for anyone in need, which sometimes meant driving across the country alone to be with them.
Even as her memory began to fade, her humor and wit remained as fierce as her love.
