HAPPENINGS AT THE GOLF COURSE
By Billie Gail Fox
On Friday, July 3rd, the Aaron twins (Gary and Jerry) played 18 holes of golf at the Okemah Golf Club. When I went out to visit with them, Jerry said, “We played like twins. We tied with a score of 80.” Gary introduced me to his son, Raleigh, who is a sophomore in high school and said that his older son is a freshman in college. We talked about his wife Laura (Glenn) and I sent her my love. I’m so glad that they came to play golf and that I got to visit with them.
Justin Groves was so excited when he came into the clubhouse on Sunday. He reported, “For the first time, I shot 66 by myself for 18 holes of golf. That was in spite of making a double bogie on #11.” Congratulations, Justin! He also said that his little boy Kye loved the fireworks show they went to and wasn’t afraid of the noise at all.
If you have noticed how well groomed the fairways are, thank Hartzel Brinlee, Tom Howell, Nokey Klutts, Bill Parker and some others who fill in from time to time. They really do a good job.
21 players participated in the 2-person scramble on Thursday, July 2nd. Jessy Wade and Justin Groves won the scramble with a score of 4 under par. Pat Boatman won the prize for the longest drive and Hunter Thompson won for the closest to the pin.
45 golfers participated in the 4-person scramble on Monday, July 6th. Heath Lee, Justin Groves, Austin Guinn and Jeff Strianese won the scramble with a score of 6 under par. Justin Groves also won the prize for the longest drive and Chris Holuby won for the closest to the pin.
